What Is Silver Summit Healthplan (Ambetter) of Nevada?

Silver Summit Healthplan is a health plan issuer in the Nevada Health Insurance Marketplace.1 The company helps members access quality local healthcare in the state.2 In Nevada, Ambetter is branded as Silver Summit Healthplan and is a managed care organization that provides healthcare services to Nevada Check Up and Nevada Medicaid members in Clark and Washoe counties.2

Silver Summit Healthplan believes in treating the whole person, not just the physical body. To accomplish this, the company helps members access mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and provides coverage for the cost of these treatments in some capacity.2 As a Silver Summit Healthplan member, you have access to local healthcare that is at least partially covered by your insurance plan, including addiction treatments.3

Does Silver Summit Healthplan (Ambetter) of Nevada Cover Rehab Treatment?

Yes, Silver Summit Healthplan should cover some, if not all, of the cost of rehab and other addiction treatment at a facility in Nevada or out of state.4

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandates all health plans offered on the Health Insurance Marketplace include 10 essential health benefits, one of which is the treatment of substance use disorder (SUD).5 All Ambetter insurance plans (including Silver Summit Healthplan) offer these essential health benefits:6

  • Ambulatory or outpatient services.
  • Emergency services.
  • Hospitalization.
  • Preventative and wellness services.
  • Prescription drugs.
  • Laboratory services.
  • Maternity care.
  • Pediatric services.
  • Mental health and substance use services.
  • Therapy services (e.g., physical therapy).

Silver Summit Healthplan complies with all of the requirements from the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008, which further ensures that insurance companies provide benefits for mental health disorders and SUD.7

This means that if you need to access treatment for SUD, you can choose any addiction treatment provider or rehab facility that participates in the Silver Summit Healthplan network, and you will not need a referral from your PCP to begin treatment.8

Your deductible amounts, copayment or coinsurance amounts, and treatment limits for all mental health disorder and SUD benefits are applied in the same way as physical health service benefits (e.g., surgery).8

As a Silver Summit Healthplan member, you also have access to the Integrated Care Team, which assists members with complex needs who would benefit from coordinating services.9 Keep in mind not every plan covers the same services at the same level of coverage. It’s always best to call the number on the back of your insurance card and speak with a representative to learn more about what your specific plan covers.

You can also contact American Addiction Centers (AAC) at to speak with an admissions navigator. AAC is in-network with Ambetter and has treatment facilities across the U.S. Our admissions navigators walk you through your treatment options, verify your insurance, and help you with the admissions process when you’re ready.

What Types of Addiction Treatment Does Silver Summit Healthplan (Ambetter) of Nevada Cover?

If you are struggling with substance use disorder (SUD), Silver Summit Healthplan may provide addiction treatment coverage for a variety of substances, including alcohol, cocaine, crystal meth, heroin, opioids, prescription drugs, and more. The type of treatment you need depends on several factors, such as the substance you are using, how long you’ve been using it, and whether you have other mental health concerns that need to be addressed too.

The types of addiction treatment that may be covered by your Silver Summit Healthplan plan include:8

  • Detox programs: Although not all patients will need medically managed detox, it is often the first step on the journey to recovery. Medically managed detox involves the use of prescription medications to help you withdraw comfortably and safely from drugs or alcohol while being monitored and supported by medical professionals.
  • Inpatient treatment programs: Inpatient programs (also known as residential treatment) require patients to live at a rehab facility for a certain period (e.g., 3 months). Individual and group therapy are integral parts of inpatient rehab. Here, patients learn the root of their addiction and healthy coping mechanisms to support long-term recovery.
  • Partial hospitalization programs (PHP): Similar in structure to inpatient programs, PHPs allow patients to live at home while accessing treatment. Patients will attend treatment at a facility 5 or more days per week, typically for 4 to 6 hours per day.
  • Outpatient treatment programs: Outpatient programs are less time-intensive than inpatient programs and PHPs. Patients can live at home while in outpatient treatment. Outpatient programs vary, but patients can expect to attend treatment approximately 10 to 12 hours per week for anywhere from 3 to 12 months.
  • Intensive outpatient programs (IOP): IOPs are similar to traditional outpatient programs in that patients can live at home while in treatment. The time commitment is higher; patients may expect to attend treatment 4 to 6 days per week for 3 to 4 hours per day.
  • Aftercare: Aftercare is a general term to describe any type of follow-up treatment after rehab. Types of aftercare can include ongoing therapy and 12-step meetings like A.A.

Does Silver Summit Healthplan (Ambetter) of Nevada Cover Mental Health & Dual Diagnosis Treatment?

Yes, Silver Summit Healthplan should cover mental health and dual diagnosis treatment in some capacity per the Affordable Care Act (ACA).5

If you have a mental health condition (e.g., anxiety, depression) as well as substance use disorder (SUD), this is known as a “dual diagnosis” or co-occurring disorder.10 Almost half of individuals who struggle with addiction also struggle with a mental health disorder. Dual diagnosis treatment is designed to address both conditions at the same time. Research suggests that treating both disorders together is the most effective treatment path.10

How Long Does Silver Summit Healthplan (Ambetter) of Nevada Cover Inpatient Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs?

How long you stay in rehab depends on your specific needs and the type of treatment you require. Research shows that staying in treatment for 3 months or longer gives individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) a better chance at long-term recovery.11 The treatment time that will be covered by Silver Summit Healthplan depends on the specific plan you have.

Knowing ahead of time what your insurance will cover for treatment and what you can expect to pay out-of-pocket is important. To learn about your specific coverage, call the number on the back of your insurance card to speak with a Silver Summit Healthplan representative.

What If Silver Summit Healthplan (Ambetter) of Nevada Doesn’t Cover Inpatient Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs?

Depending on the plan you have, your Silver Summit Healthplan coverage may not cover all of your costs for inpatient rehab. Even if you have some expenses, it’s better to get treatment as soon as you are ready.

There are many options to help you pay for the cost of inpatient rehab, including:

  • Financing and payment plans offered by the rehab facility.
  • Grants and scholarships offered by some rehabs and government programs.
  • Sliding scales to adjust the cost of treatment based on what you can realistically pay.
  • Loans from banks, family, or friends.

Deciding to seek addiction treatment is one of the best things you can do for yourself. If finances are a concern, know that there is help available to ensure you get the treatment you need, when you need it.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network Drug Rehab Centers

When deciding which rehab center to attend, you likely come across a lot of “in-network” and “out-of-network” language. Whenever possible, try to choose a rehab facility that is in-network with your Silver Summit Healthplan plan.

Rehabs that are in-network with your insurance company have an agreement with the insurance provider to provide addiction treatment at a discounted rate to Silver Summit Healthplan members. This generally means fewer out-of-pocket expenses for you.

While your Silver Summit Healthplan plan may provide some coverage if you go to an out-of-network rehab facility, you will likely end up paying more out-of-pocket. Before you choose a rehab center, call to ask if they are in-network with Silver Summit Healthplan, or call the number on the back of your insurance card to ask about finding an in-network rehab center.
