What Is Molina Healthcare Insurance?

Molina Healthcare is a healthcare solution for people in need of care and serves more than 4.5 million members throughout the United States.1 Molina Healthcare offers several plans for members, including:2

  • Medicaid Molina: This plan is through a state government entity and provides several quality healthcare services to individuals and families. People eligible for government-sponsored programs, such as Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), are offered Medicaid through Molina.
  • Molina Medicare. If you qualify for Medicare, you can opt for the Molina Medicare Advantage plan. Molina Medicare delivers an array of benefits and programs, including services with doctors, hospitals, rehab facilities, and other providers at minimal or no out-of-pocket cost.
  • Integrated Medicaid/Medicare: This healthcare plan is for people who qualify for both Medicaid and Medicare. The integrated experience ensures clients receive quality care that meets their needs.
  • Molina Marketplace: Molina Healthcare offers Marketplace plans in many states. This type of plan helps keep out-of-pocket costs at a minimum.

Does Molina Healthcare Cover Drug and Alcohol Rehab Treatment?

Whatever Molina Healthcare plan you have, it’s important to know it will provide coverage in times of need. The good news is insurance providers like Molina Healthcare are required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to provide coverage for behavioral health treatment (e.g., counseling and psychotherapy), mental and behavioral health inpatient services, and treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs).3 Keep in mind that coverage varies depending on several factors, such as your location and the specific plan.

Types of Addiction Treatment That Molina Healthcare May Cover

Several treatment types may be covered by your Molina Healthcare insurance plan, including:4, 5

  • Detox: Although not always necessary, some patient’s continuum of care includes detox, which helps eliminate the substance from your body. You may participate in medical detox, which includes medication to help with the symptoms.
  • Inpatient rehab: With inpatient rehab, you live at the facility and receive intensive, structured care around the clock.
  • Outpatient rehab: A standard outpatient treatment program involves attending therapy several times a week while allowing you to live at home.
  • Intensive outpatient program (IOP): This program consists of intense therapy sessions that last several hours throughout the week while living at an assisted living facility.
  • Partial hospitalization program (PHP): With a PHP, patients typically attend treatment 5 to 7 days a week for several hours at a time. This option may be good for patients who do not need medical intervention but would benefit from a stronger level of support.
  • Aftercare: Aftercare helps ensure patients maintain recovery and identify ways to prevent relapse.

What Rehab Centers Take Molina Healthcare Insurance?

Working with an in-network provider is important for keeping costs low. If you have a Molina Healthcare, American Addiction Centers (AAC) has facilities that accept this insurance, including Greenhouse Treatment Center. Located in Grand Prairie, Texas, Greenhouse offers individualized treatment plans and various levels of care in a luxurious setting.

Do Rehab Centers Need to be In-Network?

As stated above, it’s best to work with an in-network provider, so you will have most or some of your costs covered. There are limited exceptions for having services covered when using out-of-network providers, but they don’t pertain to drug or alcohol rehab facilities.6 You can check with any of our American Addiction Centers (AAC) facilities and find that they will be in-network with Molina Healthcare.

Does Molina Healthcare Cover Mental Health Treatment?

People who experience both disorders simultaneously have comorbidities and often require dual diagnosis treatment.7 If your Molina Healthcare policy is through the state exchange or what’s called a Molina Marketplace plan, the policy is required to follow the Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandates.8 One of these mandates is the provision of essential benefits, which includes the treatment of mental health disorders and substance use disorders.

How Much of the Rehab Cost Does Molina Healthcare Cover?

Everyone’s rehab needs are unique. Some patients may require more in-depth treatment and longer stays in a residential treatment center, while other patients may do well with an intensive outpatient program. All of these programs will have different prices, so it’s not always easy to know how much your rehab treatment will cost. Molina Healthcare plans differ in what they cover, too. However, many plans require you to meet your deductible, then they will pay a percentage of all costs after.9

What Should I Do If the Cost of Rehab Is Not Fully Covered?

You may find that your Molina Healthcare policy doesn’t cover all rehab-related expenses. Not everyone has insurance that covers the full cost of rehab, but everyone deserves access to addiction treatment. Even if your Molina Healthcare plan doesn’t cover the full cost, it’s important not to let finances stop you from getting the help you need. Many facilities offer sliding scale options. You can also research grants, loans, and scholarships.
