Were drinking and drug use part of your teen years? Did you have a few drinks, or experiment with marijuana or other drugs while you were in high school? For many adults in the city of Paramount and throughout California, the notion that some level of drug and alcohol use is normal for teenagers prevails, and many do not see it as a problem when their children, nieces and nephews, or grandchildren are found to be drinking or getting high. The fact is, however, that even experimental drug and alcohol use can set adolescents on the path to substance abuse and addiction.
One in 3 young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 in Los Angeles County report past-month binge drinking.1 That is 34.4% of young adults in the county who are at increased risk of getting into an alcohol-related car crash or developing an alcohol use disorder. People who develop a drinking problem early in life limit their opportunities for professional and relationship development. They may also be more susceptible to developing a substance abuse problem with illicit drugs like marijuana, cocaine, or methamphetamine.
If there is a young person in your life who is struggling to moderate their drinking or drug use, you can help them find the addiction treatment they need by speaking with a treatment advisor or browsing facility directories to identify the best possible rehab program for their needs.
I would highly recommend Action Family Counseling to anyone with an addiction problem. The staff is absolutely awesome, you get 3 or (as many meals you want a day), a warm bed to sleep in, and just an all around welcoming feeling... Kind of like you\'ve made it home finally, when you walk in that place. I also recommend the after care or intensive outpatient program immediately following residential program. If you need help, go to Action, I have that family to thank for helping me find a new way to live my life.
Strengths: Accessibility, well maintained, diverse. Weaknesses: Different rules for different people, visiting hours were very limited, all food was fried or heavily rich. I was here for a year and 2 months for alcohol. This was my first rehab and I have to say, it saved my life! I was able to learn tools and fill voids where needed. I moved to there sober living after 45 days in intensive treatment and was able to get a full time job and fight my 11 year prison sentence from a felony DUI. i just celebrated 17 months and have been on my own for 2 months excelling in my job and cleaning up the wreckage of my past. God bless.
"The treatment and services offered at AToN are incredible and are priceless, in my opinion. This was my second time in treatment and the cost was very close to the same. While the other facility was very nice, it did not even compare to AToN in all aspects, from the amenities to the treatment, the cuisine the holistic offerings. Everything is five star. AToN made all the difference in my recovery. The accommodations are second to none and the meals were amazing. The staff is highly trained and I got excellent, REAL counseling, not just fluff. I learned more about myself than I ever could have imagined I would and was given tools that I will carry around for the rest of my life. It may sound cliche, but they helped me learn how to save my life. I eventually had to go home and they helped me see what that would look like in a healthful long-term way. The menu of holistic offerings is lengthy and of the best quality. I was able to experience yoga, personal training, massage, Watsu, meditation, hypnotherapy, EMDR, and I am sure I am leaving something out. One of the best things they do at AToN, is on the weekends they took all of us on exposure events. This is were we were able to go out into the community and experience a sober lifestyle. Everything we did everyday things like going to the beach, paddle boarding, miniature golf took a trolly ride through downtown San Diego and Coranado Island and they took us out to dinner at very nice restaurants on Sundays. These events were fun but they also served a very big purpose. When I left AToN I went back to the same world I was living in before and it made the transition of not drinking manageable until I could get strong enough where it didn't matter anymore. " At the risk of sounding like a commercial, I can not think of one thing. There were challenges to the staff, as one would expect of people in treatment, but they always handled anything that came up with grace and professionalism.
