I have battled addiction myself on and off for many years, and Mount Sinai Wellness Center truly saved my life. Everyone at the center, from the management team to the wellness staff made my experience there as successful as it could be. They were always there to assist me and helped me make it through my programs and treatment. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for Mount Sinai Wellness Center, and i highly recommend the center to anyone in a dark space or looking for help.
This place was the answer we as a family we were looking for. My brother had burned most bridges; now he has his life back and is on a steady path of sobriety.
I am a former resident of this program, now 4 years sober, and was surprised to see such a negative review of this program. One of the directors (TS), who is no longer associated with the program, had a tendency to use fear and vey unusual consequences as a means of behavioral modification. I admit, I didn\'t/don\'t agree with most of those techniques for a person who has already suffered severe trauma as a result of years of substance abuse/addiction, but we are talking about very unhealthy individuals who arrive to treatment with nothing but problems, poor coping skills, family issues, legal issues and low-self esteem. It doesn\'t feel good to give up the one thing that provided comfort/relief and learn how to live sober. That\'s why the statistics for long-term recovery are so low. I can say in all honesty that the program provided EVERYTHING I needed to leave and stay sober. Most places, and I have \"unsuccessfully\" attended many of them myself, provide a bed and minimal structure. Damascus provided me with structure, accountability, workbook material, relapse prevention, 12 step support and a safe, comfortable environment to learn how to live, work and thrive as a sober member of my society. It\'s too bad some disgruntled former residents who were unwilling to put forth honesty, hard work, and behavior modification into action. I still maintain friendships with many sober brothers in recovery who had the same experience I did. Thanks staff!
