A relatively safe environment to get your life back together Can be dangerous at times It is a Christian based 12 Step and more location. I lived there for 2 years and was able through City Team associations to "reboot" my life. I highly recommend for "end of the liners"
I have had family and friends in this facility. The staff is superior. This is the best facility I've worked in in 28 years in the field. The Monitoring and Re-entry program is awesome.
I was hesitant to go into inpatient treatment, but boy was I wrong to worry. To a person everyone working at The House is earnestly invested and involved in helping clients recover. Sure I had some staff who I had friction with, but I always felt my recovery took precedence over personality differences. Bedding and infrastructure is a bit handed down and scuffed up, but everything is clean, as are the public and shared personal spaces. I did not have one bad meal in 2 months- NOT ONE !!! Amaaazing Latin American home cooked food that was healthy and tasted really really good. Alameda county decided I didn’t need 90 days and clients told me they could hear my counselor fighting for me to get a full program. That moved me- that I wasn’t just another meatbag to them, even if I am to the government…I give El Chante TEN out of five STARS !!!
Since addictions do take their toll on those around you, it's likely that your family members will have damage of their own to overcome. As the addictions have progressed, you might have built up a store of hostility that's hard to break down, and your family might be accustomed to trying to control everything you do and everywhere you go. Family therapy may help all of you to heal. In family therapy sessions, you'll learn to:
While you go through family therapy sessions like this, you'll likely also go through your own counseling sessions. These private sessions are designed to help you understand how your addiction was formed, and what you can do to keep it under control for the rest of your life.
*Resources in the Community
When you've completed your addiction program, you'll need to continue to work on your recovery and support the gains you've made. Oakland is a great place to do that, as the city has a long history of helping people who want to recover from addictions. For example, in the 1990s, concerned citizens formed the Oakland Crack Task Force, and began providing community seminars, support groups and youth programs for those in need. Your community might have a program just like this that can help you maintain your sobriety.
Comparing Recovery in OaklandThere are a variety of different types of addiction treatment programs available. While many provide the same types of services for the same types of people, others tend to specialize in helping specific groups of people. Some might provide help for people with addictions and mental illness, for example, while others might help adolescents with addiction issues. Finding the program that's just right for you can take a little time, and it might require you to ask a large number of questions. You might want to know how much the care costs, for example, or you might want to find out whether the entrance to the program is restricted by age or addiction type.
