Unfortunately, counselor assignments to a patient are luck of the draw. In my 6 weeks in Caron, my counselor pretty much dropped the ball with appointments having seen me 3 times on a personal one-on-one over weeks, and once with my GF. I honestly expected a more attentive effort on her part with scheduled interactions and counseling for the amount of money one pays Caron. She assigned me homework, but never even looked at it to discuss or foster improvement in psychological well-being, one presumes the goal of the HW. Never were the 12 steps discussed either. Not once. She was meant to be my designated point person, however, my fellow roomies in the Medical Practitioner's wing assisted with better insights and genuine concern about recovery. No doubt Caron would take credit for that as a by-design outcome! Also, I was in for EtOH, and, without explanation, Caron performs a blood and hair test NOT informing you that this is an additional $600 on your bill. In speaking with their finances person (a rather conceited gentleman whose cocaine issues seemed to be conveniently "forgotten" when interacting with others in their throes of just recovering), he agreed the bill was not explained and I would not be charged. I am now being dunned by Caron's bill collection agency. This man is an awful human, and he actually takes pride in his abuse of power, as he did with my friends in recovery as well. Caron is designed to take financial advantage of patients at their weakest and most vulnerable. I would never recommend to anyone suffering any form of addiction. On the good side, I took my meditation tools from their spiritual advisor, I walked away with fellow recovery friends for life, and I lost 35 lbs there not through any help from them but on my own watching what I ate and self-discipline in exercise. As a physician, I can objectively state theirs are not ones to seek out for assistance and follow up--possibly the laziest former drug and EtOH abusers I have met, now in a new discipline as addiction specialist physicians. I hope if you are reading this review, you are doing due diligence with selecting a recovery center and if you chose Caron will have a better experience. There is nothing proactive there as to corrective housekeeping with the issues stated above--sadly, just lip service.
This facility has a very good detox program, as well as rehab program. Rehab program has amazing housing, which is separated between women and men. Strengths included: experienced staff, dual diagnosis treatment, interesting lectures and activities and excellent personal privacy. Downfalls included: not enough variety of activities, it was a little expensive, not enough free time, no classes or activities for the creative arts.
They focused on each person separately for their needs, nice place. My husband was there for a 3 month program. Came out a lot better, made him think of others instead of just himself. They wanted him to come back and be a councelor.
