My addiction took me to places I never imagined. I lived on the streets with a $300-a-day heroin habit. With dark circles under my eyes and track marks along my arms, I felt dead; my soul was gone. At the time, life seemed hopeless. After several attempts at rehabilitation, I finally successfully detoxed at Seabrook House in Seabrook, NJ. I then entered a women's transitional facility in Southern California where, during my 3-month stay, I began to gather the tools I needed to live without drugs. I learned the simple life skills that are necessary to stay clean and obtain serenity in my life. I stayed in California for 2 & 1/2 years while working and participating in 12-step recovery before returning home to NJ. I saw the need for something following the short term treatment that addicts were getting and began to pursue opening some housing for recovering addicts in NJ similar to what I experienced in California. William D Stanley, born and raised in Baltimore, MD, attended UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical school. Later, he did his internship and residency at Albert Einstein Med Center in Philadelphia. Initially, he practiced primary care for many years but due to the influence of many people—in particular, Dr. Lou Baxter—his eyes gravitated to the world of substance abuse. Dr. Stanley became certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine in 2000. He initially focused on outpatient treatment of opioid dependence with Suboxone and, more recently, Vivitrol. He was invited to join the family of Summit Behavioral Health in 2013 part-time and started full-time as the medical director of their detox in December 2014.

Sharon is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Drug and Alcohol Counselor, Certified Clinical Supervisor and National Certified Counselor with over ten years’ experience in a variety of treatment environments including detoxification, residential, halfway house, and intensive outpatient treatment. Sharon earned her master’s degree in Counseling at Kean University where she is currently an adjunct professor in their Counselor Education Department. Sharon employs a person-centered counseling approach utilizing evidenced-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Mindfulness Based Interventions rooted in cultural competency to ensure the best possible client care. Sharon brings outstanding experience, clinical acumen, and an authentic enthusiasm and passion for supervision, holistic social services, and substance abuse counseling to Recovery Centers of America.
