    A Forever Recovery

I first came across A Forever Recovery at least 7 years ago, when I was looking for a place to send my son. While reading some of the things said about AFR I decided against sending him there. There were far too many reviews about AFR stating that it was a recruiting center for a cult, and I didn’t want my son going to a place like that. My son spent the 6 years in and out of rehab and every time I started looking for a new place to send my son to, I’d see the advertisements for AFR and finally after 6 years with absolutely no improvement in my son’s life, I figured it might just be easier to get him out of a cult that to get him off drugs, so I finally called them. Turns out, that don’t us the same programs that they used to, and they have no affiliation with that cult anymore. They still have an impressive set-up and the more I heard about AFR, the more I was almost excited at the prospect of my son going there. AFR has different programs for the clients to choose from. There’s not a one size fits all mentality to treatment there and I thought that, more than anything would help my son. In fact, I’m almost ashamed to admit that it didn’t ever occur to me that my son might be doing the wrong program for him. Whenever he’d relapse, I always thought it was him, just not trying enough. Because I thought he wasn’t putting in the effort to get sober, I never considered that he might need a different program, so I always sent him to 12-step programs because the 12-step program has been around for so long, it’s the only one I knew anything about, and so it was the only kind of program my son had ever gone to. When my son went to AFR he was able to choose a program that he felt comfortable doing and his attitude towards his recovery changed immediately after choosing the SMART program. He was putting more effort than ever before to get a recovery program done right. The clients at AFR are moved forward on their programs based on their individual progress. It’s not a 30-day or any other amount of days type of place. My son stayed at AFR for 18 weeks because he wanted to. My son started AFR liked he started so many other programs, irritated he had to go back to rehab, wanting to get it done as quickly as possible and not working as hard as he should have. After going through detox, seeing the different programs they have and spending time figuring out what he wanted to do, his whole attitude changed about being there. All of a sudden it wasn’t an annoyance he had to get through to appease me, it was something that could really help him stay sober and he was very happy about that. Going to A Forever Recovery gave my son a better chance at sobriety than all the other rehabs he’s gone to. I’m really glad I finally gave AFR a chance because going through his program has saved my son’s life. He got home last week, and I’ve never seen him so determined to stay sober. He’s doing everything he’s supposed to be doing, calling up to AFR, checking in and continuing his aftercare program. Our entire family’s life has changed for the better because of my son’s stay at AFR and I’m incredibly grateful for everything they did for him and everything they’ve continue to do since he’s come home.

Best Drug Rehab gave me my husband back. A couple years ago my husband started struggling with drug addiction. I had no idea what to do and honestly felt quite lost. A friend of ours recommended Best Drug Rehab and I am so thankful for that. The whole process to get my husband there was exceptionally quick and painless. After I talked to someone from the facility a bed was arranged and he was there the next day. Every day he went through the program there I could hear it in his voice how much better he was doing. I talked to him right after he finished detox and it was like night and day from how he was when he arrived. He sounded more like himself and while he wasn’t happy about having to be there he had come to realize that he did need to be there. They have different program options at Best Drug Rehab which really helps as he was able to pick which program he thought would benefit him the most. He was raised with religion whereas I wasn’t and I wasn’t sure if the faith based program would be what he needed or wanted. He ended up choosing a different program than the faith based one they have but even so I was really happy they offered it. The program he did changed his life and he became a much better person because of it. I’m so happy with the result of stay at Best Drug Rehab. He’s been home now for 2 years and he is still clean and sober and happy with his life. I owe so much to Best Drug Rehab for helping my husband through one of the roughest times of his life.

Hank started his work in the addiction field in 1984, working in an open ward detoxification unit in Holyoke Massachusetts. In 1985, Hank returned to school and earned both his undergraduate degree and his master’s in social work (MSW) from Springfield College. He is independently licensed, holding both an LCSW and LADC 1 in both the states of Maine and Massachusetts. Hank has worked in every facet of the treatment continuum, both in the public and private sectors. His body of work includes a diversity of positions as a program coordinator and director, primary therapist and supervisor, business development advocate, and clinical and contract oversight lead of several multi-state systems. Since 2011, Hank’s focus has been on working with individuals and families affected by addiction and dependency issues in his private practice located in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Hank’s personal recovery started in 1982 in his home town of Springfield Massachusetts. He has been married to his wife Noreen for more than 32 years and has five children and two grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, hiking, running, and spending time with his family. “Growing up, I spent a lot of time in Maine working and playing on my grandparents and aunt and uncle’s dairy farms in the Kennebunk area. Coming to work for Foundation House is like coming home for me. Maine has always been a magical, healing, and safe place for me. Coming from a terribly dark and painful place, desperation drove me into recovery in 1982, but my gratitude for the gifts of recovery has kept me here for more than 36 years. I was trained and worked as a fire fighter prior to coming into recovery and I am incredibly grateful for the skills I’ve developed, and the privilege I am afforded, to provide a life-line to individuals and families to lead them from the maelstrom of dependence to the freedom of recovery.”
