    More Info

Residents of La Mesa, California have doubtless been impacted by the staggering number of drug overdoses that our country has experienced. San Diego County was witness to about 1,272 drug overdose deaths between 2012 and 2014, and a significant number of these deaths were caused by the abuse of opioid drugs like heroin and prescription painkillers.1

For years now, there is a persistent problem of opioid abuse and addiction in and around La Mesa, California. The San Diego County Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force noted that the percentage of people seeking treatment for a substance use disorder increasingly cited heroin as their drug of choice between 2010 and 2015.2

Though the percentage of people seeking treatment for heroin increased from 20% of all admissions in 2010 to 30% of all admissions in 2015, there are more people who are in desperate need of treatment and not getting it. If you or your loved one are in this group, if you are in crisis due to opioid addiction of any kind, or are using alcohol, marijuana, or another drug, do not wait to seek treatment that can be lifesaving. Call today to speak with a treatment advisor.

An Examination of La Mesa Rehabilitation Centers

Entering drug rehab in La Mesa has helped many of the city’s youngest residents avoid damage to their bodies and minds. In La Mesa, a city nicknamed “the Jewel of the Hills,” drug-related crime may seem like a distant problem. But like other communities in the San Diego area, La Mesa has been influenced by the exchange of illegal drugs between Mexico and the United States.
In 2012, a federal grand jury charged over 100 San Diego County residents — many of whom had connections with the Mexican Mafia — with drug trafficking, racketeering and firearms offenses.

Advice on Selecting a Recovery Program

For California parents, selecting a La Mesa addiction treatment program for themselves may be much easier than choosing a facility for a child. With so much at stake, how can you choose a rehab program with confidence? Children and teens who are abusing drugs and alcohol may also have co-existing conditions like depression, eating disorders, bipolar disorder or anxiety.

A comprehensive recovery program for young people should address:

    • Family dynamics that may contribute to substance abuse
    • Potential mental health conditions
    • Problems with peers, such as bullying
    • Drug or alcohol abuse in parents or guardians

When Are Kids Most Vulnerable to Drug Abuse?

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, youths are most likely to start using drugs during transitional periods, such as:

    • When they start school
    • When they advance from elementary school to junior high, or from junior high to high school
    • After moving to a new city
    • During a divorce
    • When they enter puberty
