Our family has been going through some disconcerting times lately. Our son has an addiction and we are trying to be supportive as he battles this addiction and his life problems. Not knowing what else to do we have encouraged him in his decision to seek help and that led us to Banyan. Because I believe that everything happens for a reason, I have to believe that there is a greater purpose to uncovering our son:s need for help. I am hoping he can understand why he seeks unhealthy solutions to his problems. I am hoping that he can discover alternatives to these urges that plague him. We have agonized and hurt as I've walked this part of the journey with him. Initially I could not see how I could do that. Then I met an incredible person from finance. She has been such tremendous help. Without her encouragement and kind words I would not have been able to understand and cope the role that we play in helping our son to heal. His therapist, such great support from him, he was amazing. without them and every staff member at Banyan who helped our son, we are so grateful!! Without the support staff of Banyan Treatment Center we would not have hope for a new life for our son. Thank You All
TA Tarshae and Iyesha were very courteous and did everything they could even outside of their job to make sure we had everything we needed. They were very good in the community and always sent emails to help with issues. I know they were tired but they always stopped to help and always had a good attitude. Mattie was helpful with the orientation on where to go and how to do things. She is very patient which is key and she communicated very well. I was very nervous the first day and she helped me to feel more comfortable by giving me an orientation. I like the fact that its gated here because it makes me feel safe. I enjoyed Demetrius groups because he gives it to you raw. He has street smarts and book smarts. He made it more relatable and didn't sugar coat anything. I felt comfortable in the all men's groups because identify as a gay man, and they all treated me with respect and I treated them with respect as well. It made me feel welcomed and accepted. They also had LGBTQ groups and they were so fun. Therapist Karah was always bubbly and happy, she didn't make it about just LGBTQ, she made it about who we are as individuals and we were all able to laugh and share our ideas and thoughts and what was going through our minds with daily readings. It helped us to start off our day and be ready for a new perspective. I loved doing volleyball, it helped me with my breathing and my stamina getting to know my body again. I love being around people in recovery and the positive vibes around campus. Making people smile makes me want to stay sober. I feel like I'm more emotionally mature after being here. I feel I have more balance with my recovery. I used to isolate and I now understand I have codependency. Now I meditate every day and start my day happy, I was able to establish a routine that keeps me structured and I worked on my impulsive behaviors. Overall, I would give it a ten out of ten.
