Jamie Thompson was born and raised in Bastrop, Texas. She attended Southern Career Institute for her Medical Assistant Certificate in 2002 and 2015, and went on to National American University, where she graduated with honors on the President’s List and Summa Cum Laude. Jamie also received her license for Vocational Nursing. Jamie got her start in the addiction field when she was working in a county jail for over 6 years. In the last 3 years, she was the Director of Nursing at an exclusive male rehab facility. Jamie is not in recovery; however, her life has been touched in so many ways by recovery. Her cousin and best friend overdosed in 2008 on opiates and it changed her world. After that tragedy and working in law enforcement, she really saw how challenging the world of addiction can be. Jamie enjoys being of service to people in recovery, providing encouragement and love, and showing them that people care and are invested in them. She loves to be a part of their recovery journey. Her favorite part of being the Director of Nursing at Banyan is supporting her team and advocating for her nursing staff and the clients. She loves creating a therapeutic environment for the staff and supporting them in creating the same for the clients. Jamie’s goal for her career at Banyan is to create an atmosphere of acceptance, encouragement and longevity amongst the staff. She wants to plant the seed and grow along with the other staff members to have the best working environment possible.

Founder of The Advantage Group Foundation, Director Patrice Owens came to AAC as an incisive leader in the not-for-profit sector with proven creative problem-solving skills. Handling multiple key leadership functions, Owens oversaw 26 years of continuous growth for Advantage Group, a 501(C) (3) substance abuse outpatient and intensive treatment program for adolescents and young adults serving Chicago and surrounding communities. From inception to CARF Accreditation, Owens also took the community-based Foundation through the processes of state licensure and funding.

Mia has a Master’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University which is located in Nacogdoches, Texas. Her undergraduate degree is in Criminal Justice and Psychology. While living in Nacogdoches, she was employed with the State of Texas in child welfare and the court system. Since moving to the Austin area, Mia has provided therapy services at addiction treatment centers and in a private group therapy practice. Mia works with her clients to “make sense” of the how their history is intersecting with current life experiences. Life can present us with great challenges and those challenges can bring us growth or defeat. Mia will “hold the space” for clients to begin the process of healing and growth. Research has shown that the relationship between the therapist and the client is the best predictor of success. She strives to create a safe environment for clients to express their deepest feelings and thoughts, by being genuine, listening attentively and intuitively. Mia is both compassionate and direct. She uses various therapeutic approaches; such as Mindfulness to connect in with our physical self, Internal Family Systems to discover the narrative, Cognitive Behavioral to learn how thoughts influence emotions and behaviors, and EMDR to work through trauma.
