It all started 14 years ago, when my self and my disease started as a seemingly fun time had quickly transformed into fun with problems and in no time at all, it was JUST PROBLEMS. My life had changed drastically from living at home, holding down a job, to homeless on the streets at a young age. I began to live my life only to use drugs, in any form and whatever it was i could get my hands on. The repeated behaviors of lying and stealing from my family was all i knew how to do in order to live. Time and time again I had destroyed the trust my family had in me, continuing those behaviors and running my life straight into the ground. Deeper i went into addiction, down into this hopeless state of mind i could not get myself out of. i questioned myself constantly about if i even wanted to change my life but i was becoming so comfortable living on the streets, and spending time in jail. I wanted something different for myself. Call it luck or call it God's will, but whatever you want to call it.. it was a blessing. I made a call and spoke with the intake coordinator at Broadway Treatment Center who just so happened to be old friend of mine, who had since gotten sober. I had absolutely no idea he had even worked in treatment, but i took that as a sign that this was exactly the right thing for me to do. The next day, as promised, i was being picked up and driven to detox at Broadway! i hadn't felt relief like that in a very long time. After these past 2 and a half months in treatment, i have received multiple skills and tools that were results of the time spent in groups, learning simply about life on life's terms. Among the groups we discussed anger management, relapse prevention, cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive therapy, and much time in 1 on 1 sessions with a case manager and therapist. Devising a specified treatment plan strictly for me and what I wanted to get out of my stay at Broadway. The unbelievable staffing was another huge blessing to me because of their genuine care and concern they had for myself and the other clients had spoke volumes to me. The program and my treatment at Broadway in its entirety was absolutely amazing. I am completing my stay here today, moving on to the next stage of my life, taking with me all of the tools i was provided and the skills i received from attending group. I got exactly what i wanted here, learning that what i want is directly connected to the effort i put into it. I am so happy and forever grateful for Broadway saving my life!
I LOVE Action Family Bakersfield!!! I have been employed by Action for almost 4 years. All the staff is like a big family, working together to help people and families effected by addiction. The program directors are incredibly intelligent and insightful. The facility managers go above and beyond to keep clients comfortable and important. The chef is a gift to all who consume his food, he caters to each individual\'s likes and dislikes when shopping and prepares delicious home cooked meals 3 times a day. 5 days a week. The counsellors are amazing and genuinely care about each client\'s recovery. I know that I would still be clean and sober without Action, 4 1/2 years and counting!!! If I was no longer an employee, I would continue to recommend friends and family members because they treat you as if you are!
