Nicole Bower was born in Houston and raised in Bastrop, Texas. She graduated in 2000 from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Psychology and got her MBA in healthcare management in 2008. She began working with people receiving mental health and substance abuse treatment in 2000. It was at the age of 13 that Nicole first discovered her passion; to help those who struggle with mental health and addiction. Her desire intensified as she grew older, witnessing firsthand the struggles of addiction in her close family members. Nicole is an important asset to the Banyan team. As the Executive Director of Banyan Treatment Centers, she gets the opportunity to define and develop a system that fosters the lives of clients in addiction treatment. Nicole promotes a collaborative culture in Banyan, which creates successful outcomes for clients. “Every human being deserves compassion, dignity, and respect… and it is our responsibility to ensure every person has the tools needed to be successful!”

Founder of The Advantage Group Foundation, Director Patrice Owens came to AAC as an incisive leader in the not-for-profit sector with proven creative problem-solving skills. Handling multiple key leadership functions, Owens oversaw 26 years of continuous growth for Advantage Group, a 501(C) (3) substance abuse outpatient and intensive treatment program for adolescents and young adults serving Chicago and surrounding communities. From inception to CARF Accreditation, Owens also took the community-based Foundation through the processes of state licensure and funding.

"To achieve lasting change, you have to change at the emotional level. It took me 20 years to realize this. I had gone through trial and error, attempt after attempt, and I got nowhere but depressed. In my mind, I wanted to change, but just couldn’t stick with it. Once I learned to address the underlying causes, my emotions no longer fought against my mind, and I was able to quit my own addictions, and stay quit. That’s the trick! I can teach you to do that too at AIM, and it won’t take 20 years! For me, there is nothing more rewarding than working with clients as they identify their core recovery issue. I help clients find their own life purpose and create a life vision for themselves; something more meaningful than using drugs or alcohol.
