Serenity Point Recovery Center

My name is John. Generally speaking, I usually leave rehab with a thick stack of papers. This stack usually consists of packets of educational materials regarding addiction, relationships, and mental health. I am leaving Serenity Point Recovery with a stack of papers of equal thickness, but the stack consists of artwork, song lyrics, and journal entries. One would think that the stack of educational material would hold higher value in terms of my recovery. I do not see it that way. The creative expressions contain more meaning to me and emotionally connect me to my true self. They illustrate a linear, chronological progression of my growth here and a blossoming of spirit. I plan to hang and display all of this work in my place of residence when I arrive home to visually remind of my experience at Serenity Point Recovery. The wide variety of curriculum at SPR allowed me to explore different teaching methods and group dynamics until I could find a class environment/setting that connected with me best. I am not discounting academic teaching styles by any means, but my recovery insisted that I tap into my emotional and spiritual realms in order to succeed, and SPR provided that for me. Good food. Good curriculum
