Even though they opened in 2013, it felt like they really knew what they were doing and had been working together for a long time. I had lots of individual attention from my primary therapist and the other therapists and staff all seemed to get me. I had a private room all the way through treatment. The appliances in the house were new and the furniture was clean and nice. I was given a new sheets and towels and my bed was very comfortable. We had our own laundry facilities in the house. We grocery shopped at a whole foods store and cooked healthy meals and worked out at LA fitness. I was \"on buddy\" system for the first month and I was always with staff or a trusted senior resident but I liked that because I always had someone to talk to. We went to outside AA and NA meetings as a group almost every evening and usually every day at noon too. They kept us very busy but that was good because I was never bored. They emphasized \"fun in recovery\" a lot so we did a lot of sober fun outings like going to the beach or go-karts or movies. I made a bunch of friends whom I stay in touch with months later, so I think that is a good sign that the changes I made in treatment are sticking. I probably do not go to as many meetings as I should now but i am still clean and sober and doing well.
I’m working on making amends as I left the facility AMA. I knew I needed help but I wanted drugs more. I’m in counseling again and I’m starting to realize that I put up a lot of walls all the time to keep myself safe. When I was at Sunspire it was the first time I really felt like people cared about me. Sure there’s insurance and paperwork but people there put up with my crap, and didn’t get mad at me when I was acting a fool. I met with staff before I left and I didn’t want to hear nothin they said to me. I knew they cared though and I really felt they cared it’s like I could see it in their eyes that they were worried about me, but I didn’t care then. I’m learning how I pushed the staff there away and want people to know you will get great help there but you have to accept it. Thanks for allowing me to make amends.
