Dr. Antonio De Filippo is triple board certified in Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Addiction Medicine and is a leading mental health authority in South Florida. Dr. De Filippo’s extensive experience includes senior executive positions at many local Institutions including Spectrum Programs, Archways Community Mental Health Center, Susan B. Anthony Community Mental Health Center, Miami Behavioral Health, and the Broward County Health Planning Council. Dr. De Filippo is currently the CEO of South Florida Psychiatric Services. He is also a speaker for several major pharmaceutical corporations and is frequently requested as a consultant and trainer for national medical advisory meetings. Dr. De Filippo graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Miami and received his medical degree from the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine. He returned to Miami to complete his residency training at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital. Doctor De Filippo is currently an adjunct professor of psychopharmacology at Nova University Medical School.

Jeffrey A. Berman, MD, FASAM is a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He is the Executive Medical Director of Discovery Institute for Addictive Disorders in Marlboro, NJ and Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He was recruited from Bergen Regional Medical Center, NJ’s largest acute psychiatric hospital, where he served as Director of Chemical Dependency Services to join Discovery Institute in Marlboro. Dr. Berman is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in Adult and Addiction Psychiatry as well as Psychosomatic Medicine. He has been certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine since 1988 and is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine (ABAM). Dr. Berman’s area of special interest in research and teaching is Pain Management and Co-occurring Opioid Dependence. He is also a strong advocate for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for the chronic persistent mentally ill. Dr. Berman participated in NIDA’s clinical trials of Buprenorphine/Naloxone for treatment of heroin addiction in 2001. Since then he has developed innovative treatment programs for individuals with Co-occurring disorders as well as Substance Use Disorders. Dr. Berman served as Chief of Psychiatry at Fort Leavenworth, KS including the Department of Defense’s US Disciplinary Barracks located at Fort Leavenworth. He recently retired from the US Army Reserve after 22 years of service which included service in Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He is currently the Psychiatric Consultant to the Department of Immigration Health (DIHS), a division of Homeland security. Prior to coming to New Jersey, he served as Medical Director of Gieisinger Health Care’s Marworth chemical dependency center and consultant to pain management centers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for issues of addiction, pain and co-occurring mood disorders. He has taken an active role in the medical treatment of HIV patients in all of these clinical settings.

Hi, I’m Eric Lapp, the Founder and CEO of the Raleigh House. Just this year, we’ve celebrated our 10th year of serving our community. One thing I’ve learned after working with over a thousand families is that substance abuse devastates families. It destroys lives but most importantly, people do recover and families get better. Long ago I discovered that addiction stems from years of LIFE and it is just a symptom of something more going on. We didn’t cause it but it is our job to figure out how to live a healthy life. The Raleigh House takes a multifaceted approach to treating addiction but first we have to understand the contributing factors of why and how it exists in the first place. At The Raleigh House we are careful to understand what is driving the substance use and the behaviors. We understand that addiction in some cases is a family disease, patterns and behaviors started at a young age that later manifested as problematic substance use and mood irregularities. In order to treat the desire to use, drink and act out unhealthy behaviors we have to grasp the entire picture. What was the childhood like, was there enough attention, was there enough love and nurture, what about support and discipline? Was there space to make choices, was there guidance if there was a better decision? Where did it come from and what prohibitin advancement in life. At The Raleigh House our job is to raise awareness and begin the transformational process, your job is to keep it!
