This is a Christian based program. I was skeptical, in fact I had friends from AA tell me because this was not a 12 step program that they were probably going to try to talk me into Jesus instead of AA. I didn't care. I was desperate. Truly my life changed there. Yes, I relapsed when I re-entered the world, but the depth of the faith that was begun while at Grace Home allowed me to be picked back up and then completely healing. 25 years of drinking, battling, struggling- completely taken, gone, lifted, no more. Those 10 weeks were intense and invaluable. It changed my life. This was not a 12 step program, rather spiritual.
I researched several regional facilities to combat my alcohol addiction and chose Charleston Recovery Center. The explanation was thorough in regards to their program of recovery, pricing, and residential guidelines. I was given a tour of the main house & loved the homey, cozy feel of both the house and residents. Everyone was so welcoming and accepting! The house is clean & kept up with. While the program circles around the traditional "12 Steps", it's very accommodating to all walks of life which made me feel accepted being a Buddhist. Its affordability is only a small bonus compared to the peace & sobriety I've achieved through coming here.
This was my third time at a place like The Owl's Nest. I can say that today my sobriety is like never before. The illness I suffer from is treated by following what I have learned and practiced here on a daily basis. The staff here truly care about residents and the rumors or gossip are obviously not true of the staff members here now. Apparently a lot of stuff has changed because in my four-month stay much of the housing was remodeled and staff members were removed. Maybe those who write negative things were not willing to apply this program and without application nothing will work. If you want a true solution I suggest you give The Owl's Nest a try. This place has truly been a blessing to me and my family.
