My therapist Trina was incredible. I've been fairly repressive for a long time and she met me where I was at and made me feel comfortable opening up and talking to her which helped me to be honest with other people around me. Feeling like I had somebody on my team made me feel much more open and willing. Got to give a shout out to Dimiritius, he brought incredible energy to the room and was incredibly thought provoking. He really primed people to open up and participate. He instilled a sense of value and self worth through his groups, it was necessary for me hear so I could transition my thinking about my addiction as something that limited me into something I could use for the benefit of others. I felt very comfortable as far as housing. The two room mates I had were a match to my age which was helpful because I was able to relate. Having a safe space lowered the anxiety levels of being in treatment for the first. I used the walking trail and the campus is beautiful. Being able to go out and be in nature made me feel comfortable. River Oaks reminded me that I'm not alone in the way that I have isolated to enable my addiction. It got me out of that habit and allowed me to be an active part of a recovery community that was willing to listen to me and meet me where I was at. I would definitively recommend coming here.
The staff was wonderful and easy to communicate with, which helped when I was unable to visit. I felt very much "at ease" knowing she was being cared for. When I first got there, I jokingly asked if I could have a room - it was very nice! When I picked my daughter up 30 days later, the atmosphere made me feel as if they were one big family who had grown close and we're concerned with each others progress.
