The staff at the St. Cloud VA has truly lost its way. This facility is riff with serious problems. Programs are based on a systematic process of filling veterans in and out of the door within a predetermined time limit, not what is best for each veteran. Veterans are not allowed to talk openly about their individual traumas in classes and often veterans will be placed into classes not suited to their needs. Much time is wasted on government bureaucracy and red tape. Veteran medical issues are not fully addressed and veterans are typically taken off all medications upon entering, even medications approved by other VA doctors. This facility was once seen as a great rehab/PTSD facility among the VA medical centers. Given my recent experience here, I would never come back.

The facility had good resources for the veteran, particularly access to medical care. The accommodations weren't always ideal, especially when someone serious about being in recovery is rooming with someone who is not. Offering 12-Step meetings at the facility is essential, and this facility did host meetings, though the quality of them was a bit suspect. If you are a veteran, it is the best option to at least start at the VA.

Strengths: Helps veterans. Weaknesses: Not enough activities. Our son was there twice.
