My son was at Borden Cottage for an addiction to opiates. The staff and care were top notch, as were the facility and nutritional meals. He has been home for two weeks and is doing pretty well. I highly recommend Borden Cottage.

Great program but they forgot one thing: the new realities of how easy it is to get a \"prescription\" to start smoking pot, after over $70,000 has been spent, when they get out. Considering how many group sessions these patients go through per week it seems obvious that very few of them are about this subject. Sure alcohol is going to be available when they are out. And it\'s legal. And I\'m sure plenty of group sessions have gone over that particular drug. But I\'m thinking that what\'s happening is there\'s no clear focus on this new reality that pot is everywhere now. I feel like the money spent has been wasted. Just like any other drug is plenty of denial going on someone is lying and saying they\'re talking to their sober coach and that the sober coach actually recommended the marijuana but I don\'t think so. They call it CBD and hide behind that confusion. I feel like this is a failing not on the attendee but on the part of Borden to not provide the necessary coaching one way or the other so that a person can make the decision that they\'re going to be happy with when they leave the program.

Great program I am doing very well but to say "psychologist sessions are included" is just not accurate. I have been here over two weeks of a one month stay and have not seen "the psychologist" once. I asked to see other staff, the other psychologist today but again was told a flat "no". This is causing anxiety, not curing it. I also desperately need to gain weight and no one seems to really be taking that seriously.

Also was a two time resident. Accommodations and food were over the top, treatment not so much.

I was a client twice. The accommodations and staff are excellent. Meals are some of the best I've ever had. Clinically it's okay. Probably not worth the cost if you're seriously addicted. Ian (who runs most groups)is a great guy but has never drank alcohol in his life. They have you make trigger lists and there is a lot of CBT and DBT. For me a trigger to drink is waking up in the morning and CBT / DBT are great for people trying to deal with their emotions but real addiction is on a much deeper level. Tom Rodman ( whose in recovery and rents out beautiful Fox Hill to McClain) offers some 12 step work and they offer optional 12 step meetings but it's not enough. For a real alcoholic and addict no amount of art therapy / yoga/ CBT will really help. Maybe great for dual diagnosis people but for me it was just a really expensive vacation. Try to find a 12- step based treatment center if you want to achieve sobriety.
