Aspire Counseling Services

9830 Brimhall Road, Bakersfield, California, 93312
At Aspire Counseling Services we share the philosophy of Narcotics Anonymous: “It’s not what or how much you used but only what you want to do about your problem and how we can help.” Alcohol and other drugs become a problem when we continue to use despite negative consequences to our lives. Perhaps a person only drinks every 6 months but every time they drink they get a DUI. Or maybe you are a daily drinker who has a difficult time coping without alcohol. Perhaps you have had a physical injury that caused you to be prescribed painkillers and as your body gained a tolerance you ended up using more and more until no amount could take away your pain. Or maybe you are the person who has lost their relationships with family members due to street drugs and are suffering from the guilt and shame of not being able to stop. No matter your poison, being held hostage by a substance is no way to live. The counselors at Aspire Counseling Service are all ex addicts with multiple years in recovery obtained by different methods. We incorporate behavior modification, cognitive thinking, mindfulness skills, 12 step concepts, and many other models depending on each person's needs and belief system. We understand that having a healthy support system is crucial to recovery and work to involve family members when possible as well as peers, sponsors, friends, and medical professionals.

Specialization

  • Eating Disorder Treatment

Many mental health professionals view eating disorders (including anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder, along with other dysfunctional eating patterns) as a food addiction – in that food is used in ways other than as fuel or a source of pleasure. Some, but not all, addiction treatment programs include eating disorder treatment as part of the service menu. Also, an eating disorder may be a dual-diagnosis or a co-occurring disorder with drug or alcohol addiction.
  • Intensive Outpatient

Patients who undergo intensive outpatient treatment continue to live at home and sometimes go to school or work while participating in a highly structured treatment protocol that is focused on ending substance abuse. Programs vary in terms of how much treatment patients receive, how often and for how long. Some facilities design individualized intensive outpatient treatment programs.

  • Scott Huhn, CADC-CAS
    Scott Huhn, CADC-CASPresident
Meet the founder and president of Aspire, Scott Huhn! Scott started Aspire with the vision of transforming lives impacted by addiction and substance use through compassionate, evidence-based treatment that is personalized to fit each individual's needs. He is also the owner of New Vision Recovery Inc. a program that specializes in working with the school districts to design and implement intervention, prevention, and treatment modalities. He wants families who are struggling to know that there is always hope. While he can relate to all individuals struggling with addiction, he especially enjoys working with teenagers and their families. Though he has been sober for more than thirty years, Scott has firsthand experience with substance abuse and knows the havoc it wreaks on families. As a sixteen year old addicted to drugs and alcohol, he was bounced from various treatment facilities until the promise of real recovery finally sank in and he made a commitment to sobriety. His experience gave him the deeply rooted desire to help others to overcome the disease of addiction and to help families heal broken bonds. Scott began his career as an addiction specialist in 1987 and has extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient programs. He received his credentials as a certified alcohol and drug counselor-certified addiction specialist (CADC-CAS) from the prestigious California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals. Additionally, he is a certified alcohol and other drug addictions specialist (CAS) through California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and son and going to the beach and mountains.
