Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation
Until and unless the patient is willing to admit being powerless to the addiction, I don't believe anyone-Hazelden staff, family members, or anybody else can deliver sobriety. I did not read all of the negative posts; my take-away, however, is many were written by disappointed family members. An often mentioned topic was cost. My question to those people: How much is a loving, trustworthy, caring, no longer self-centered recovering alcoholic or addict worth? Another negative theme seems to be unrealistic expectations of results in a 28 day period. Until the patient understands and accepts addiction is a disease of the mind, body, and soul, the recovery process cannot begin. 28 days is a mere beginning. My experience with Hazelden gave me a tremendous base of knowledge to become sober. For that, I am extremely grateful. The others in my life, whether family, friends, or co-workers, are as well. Thank you so much!
