Pinewoods is a detox crisis facility. Residents need to understand that there job is to stabilize you. No its not the Betty Ford clinic, you have 3 wonderfull employees to oversee 20 residents. Do not criticiz them for supervising your detox in which they only have 72hrs. You recovery is your responsibility and it starts when you walk out the door. Thank you Pinewood for assisting in my 6yrs 4months recovery.
The staff is past patients and they understand your condition in a compassionate way. They make sure you do not suffer during detox and they teach coping and life altering skills that course correct your life. 4 day extensive and life changing family counseling offered as well.
I am a former resident of this program, now 4 years sober, and was surprised to see such a negative review of this program. One of the directors (TS), who is no longer associated with the program, had a tendency to use fear and vey unusual consequences as a means of behavioral modification. I admit, I didn\'t/don\'t agree with most of those techniques for a person who has already suffered severe trauma as a result of years of substance abuse/addiction, but we are talking about very unhealthy individuals who arrive to treatment with nothing but problems, poor coping skills, family issues, legal issues and low-self esteem. It doesn\'t feel good to give up the one thing that provided comfort/relief and learn how to live sober. That\'s why the statistics for long-term recovery are so low. I can say in all honesty that the program provided EVERYTHING I needed to leave and stay sober. Most places, and I have \"unsuccessfully\" attended many of them myself, provide a bed and minimal structure. Damascus provided me with structure, accountability, workbook material, relapse prevention, 12 step support and a safe, comfortable environment to learn how to live, work and thrive as a sober member of my society. It\'s too bad some disgruntled former residents who were unwilling to put forth honesty, hard work, and behavior modification into action. I still maintain friendships with many sober brothers in recovery who had the same experience I did. Thanks staff!
