Serenity Lane

Top-notch inpatient, outpatient and have counselors who truly care. However, they told me that my insurance would cover everything. I showed up but was then asked to leave two days later because they weren't "in my network"...my insurance wouldn't cover it. They said, "Well, you can stay the night, but it will cost $400. I declined. I was lucky enough to have a relative who said please stay...I will loan the money to you. I stayed. However, I did have a balance left over, and they charge 18%! Seems criminal to me. So, yes, I recommend it, but do your own research about insurance coverage. I am still paying two years later.

I relapsed after several months; however, my aftercare treatment consists of outpatient treatment and AA meetings.

Browse Eugene Recovery Programs The city of Eugene is known for its health-conscious atmosphere, its natural beauty and its emphasis on outdoor recreation. But substance abuse is also part of the social fiber of the community, and Eugene drug rehab centers must help both adults and adolescents deal with the problems caused by drugs and alcohol.

Treating a substance use disorder is rarely a cut-and-dried process, especially when it's accompanied by a condition like depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder or schizophrenia.

A Guide to Enrolling Into a Treatment Center

The relationship between mental illness and substance abuse is complicated. Mental illness may be the motivating factor in drug or alcohol use, or it may trigger the symptoms of a mental disorder. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, depression often co-exists with PTSD, panic disorder, social phobia or obsessive-compulsive disorder, making treatment even more complex. Finding Eugene drug treatment centers that specialize in treating co-occurring conditions can make a big difference in your chances of long-term recovery.

The Co-Occurring Recovery Program, run by Eugene's Center for Family Development, is an example of a publicly funded rehabilitation project that offers hope to adults and teens who suffer from substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Programs like this offer:

  • Individual therapy for drug or alcohol dependency
  • Mental health treatment
  • Family counseling
  • Community resource coordination
  • Education in relapse prevention
How Does Mental Illness Affect Recovery?

Mental illness exists in approximately half of all people who struggle with substance abuse, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). When it comes to seeking recovery and maintaining abstinence, people have a greater risk of:

  • Non-compliance with medications or therapy
  • Violent behavior
  • Accidental injuries
  • Physical illness
  • Poverty and homelessness
  • Incarceration
  • Chronic relapse

Treating mental illness in conjunction with a substance use disorder can be extremely challenging, but because of the costs to the individual, to families and to the community in general, finding effective solutions is critical.

Getting Treatment Centers in Eugene

The first step in getting treatment for substance abuse is to find a Eugene treatment center that provides evaluation, intervention and treatment for mental health conditions.

Public agencies, private rehabilitation facilities, faith-based centers and dual diagnosis 12-step groups are available throughout Oregon.
