Human Resources, Inc. - Willow Oaks Residential Treatment

I was put here by a drug court program, I have celiac disease and they went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make sure my nutritional requirements were met. They really made sure that I was eating what I was supposed to, and eating well. I was not supposed to be there, of course no one would believe that. It's very true though. I was treated very respectfully, which was a relief considering the fact that I was screwed by the system. The nurse went over my rights. She also had a homeless man there who had no clothes of his own and brought him her husband's clothes. Everyone there is so caring. I had a great experience, and I would think that I would say the opposite considering the fact that I SHOULD NOT have been in that position. It was not their fault, it was the county i was in who decided. But they treated me with nothing but respect and genuine compassion. I see reviews about not having enough family time. I saw how Boxwood (not sure I spelled it right but know it was one of the two facilities that I would be sent to) operated and they were able to have visitors. But had it explained to me why they thought it would be a negative thing. I saw the pros and cons of both. But really feel this facility was looking out for me and my well being. I have no negative things to say despite the bitterness of being sent there in the first place. If it's the same as when I went there, then be happy.

Program uses the Theraputic Community model. Treatment is intense, but facilitates major changes in a relatively short period of time. My only complaint about the program is the lack of emphasis on 12 step programs as a means of achieving long-term recovery.

Treatment team communication, access to support groups, contingency planning, and medical modeling. Consistency in treatment are some of the great things about this place.

Rural Substance Abuse

Those living in the rural United States may have increased difficulty finding treatment options for drug or alcohol addiction. Some barriers to treatment include:

  • Options are limited in rural areas.
  • Drug options are increased. Rural areas are a new market for dealers, and an easy place to hide lab activities.
  • The logistics of rural area transportation, especially in winter, may increase the difficulty of patients attending appointments.
  • Social stigma can impact addicts' ability to discuss their need for treatment at all.
