    Knowledgable staff and willingness to do what it takes to help there patients succeed. Phsycologist and social workers reach out to parents and provide referrals to other agencies and counselors patient can continue to get treatment from after they go home

    Naval Hospital Pensacola - Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program

    I was healthier both in mind and body and was given great tools to continue my recovery. Military style rules and expectations from staff and patients were strengths. However, there were no extra amenities.

    Shawn is a senior member of the staff and has been with 1st Step for over 10 years. Shawn came to 1st Step as a client in 2005 and started her journey of recovery. She knew that she was in a special place and wanted to be a part of helping others change their life just as she did. Over time, Shawn has become one of the pillars here. She quickly progressed in the company, starting as a Behavioral Health Tech and is now the Medical Staff Support Supervisor. Her continued education, passion and personal experience is what makes her such an integral part of 1st Step. Shawn is responsible for overseeing the nursing staff and meeting with every client to ensure they are receiving the help they need. Shawn not only takes care of our clients at 1st Step but also takes her care-taking skills home with her to look after her three dogs, two cats, and two ducks. Shawn will soon be a Registered Nurse as she finishes her schooling at the end of 2015.

    Matt started his career out in the hospitality and guest services field in 2006 before moving to Florida in 2008 for the past five years he has work in the substance abuse field as a certified interventionist an Admissions director for some of the most prestigious treatment organizations in Florida some with locations nationwide. Matt joined the Recovery by the Sea team early 2017 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that we look for in all our staff members as we set the bar high he helps us raise it and continues to help set us apart from other treatment centers. He takes joy in helping not only the guest at our facilities but their entire family making sure everyone gets the help and guidance they need in what may be the most difficult times of their lives.

She is also an author and co-author of several books, and has spoken internationally on topics of substance abuse, trauma, sexuality, and relationships. Dr. Bloom has a passion for assisting clients and staff to reach their maximum potential through her solution-focused leadership style and service-oriented approach. Dr. Bloom has a collaborative style of developing and working with teams of professionals with a philosophy of providing client-centered, effective and evidence-based practices. Dr. Bloom is kind and compassionate but firm; providing supervision, guidance, training, intervention, and meaningful therapeutic services. She is also an author and co-author of several books, and has spoken internationally on topics of substance abuse, trauma, sexuality, and relationships. She has participated in specialized training in the areas of substance abuse, trauma, clinical sexology, and relationship coaching. Dr. Bloom has a Ph.D. in Clinical Sexology, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work. She is a Board Qualified Clinical Supervisor for Registered Clinical Social Work and Mental Health Counseling Interns. She has served as a Clinical Director and also as a Licensed Therapist for over 15 years and is very involved with client care, including interdisciplinary staffing and facilitating groups as needed.
