About River Oaks Treatment Center

River Oaks Mental Health Services: A Center for Healing & Wellness offers compassionate, comprehensive inpatient care for individuals with significant psychiatric challenges, independent of substance use. Located near Tampa, Florida, our program helps patients stabilize, enhance daily functioning, and prevent future mental health crises. We treat a range of mental health conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, postpartum depression, OCD, PTSD, and other conditions on a case-by-case basis. Each patient receives a personalized treatment plan created by a multidisciplinary team of nurses, psychiatrists, and therapists. Clinical services include individual and group therapy, psychiatric rehabilitation, and medication management. Our group therapy curriculum draws from evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing (MI), and more. Supportive services such as case management, family education, and peer support ensure holistic care, while leisure activities and recreational therapy promote self-expression and well-being. River Oaks also prioritizes transition planning, coordinating with outpatient providers and community resources to ensure continuity of care after discharge.

Areas of Specialization
  • Residential Treatment
Residential treatment provides a structured, supportive living environment alongside intensive mental health care. Some facilities specialize in short-term stays, others in long-term treatment, while many offer both. Program lengths can range from a few days to several months, depending on each individual's needs and therapeutic goals.
  • Family Education and Support
Research shows that individuals are more likely to experience lasting progress in their mental health recovery when family and loved ones are actively involved in the treatment process. Mental health challenges often run in families, and relational dynamics can significantly influence both the development of these conditions and the healing process. In many cases, family members are among the first to notice changes in a loved one’s behavior or emotional state, making them important allies in seeking help. Our program is designed to educate and support families as they navigate the changes and growth that come with mental health recovery, together.
  • Christian Recovery Program
At River Oaks, we offer a faith-based track for individuals who wish to integrate their Christian beliefs into the healing process. Our program includes a weekly recovery church service, Christian-centered group therapy, and spiritually guided activities that support emotional and mental wellness. Patients can also attend 12-Step meetings and peer support groups like AA and NA, as desired. This optional track provides a space for reflection, connection, and growth rooted in faith.
  • Salute to Recovery
Our Tampa Bay facility offers specialized mental health and addiction treatment for Veterans, addressing the unique experiences and needs that come with military service. Programs are designed to support recovery from trauma, substance use, and co-occurring mental health conditions through evidence-based care and peer connection.
  • Programming for First Responders and Professionals
We provide dedicated treatment programs for first responders and working professionals who face high-stress environments and unique mental health challenges. Our tailored care addresses issues like burnout, PTSD, anxiety, and substance use, offering a confidential and supportive space for healing and recovery.
  • Treatment for Grief
Grief can deeply impact a person’s emotional and mental well-being. At River Oaks, we offer a specialized grief support group for patients navigating loss while in recovery. Led by counselor Andrea Marvin, who created the program after the personal loss of her husband and daughter, this group provides compassionate guidance, peer support, and coping strategies.
  • Transition and Discharge Planning
We understand the importance of preparing patients for a smooth transition back to the community. Our discharge planning process includes identifying appropriate housing, employment resources, and support services; developing personalized aftercare plans to ensure ongoing care and stability; and coordinating with outpatient providers such as primary care physicians, mental health professionals, and other specialists to support a seamless continuum of care. Each patient receives a written discharge plan to share with aftercare providers, helping to promote clarity, consistency, and long-term success.
